Homework Support Kits (published in March 2010) aim to help parents, carers and families of school-aged children to actively engage in their child's learning at home. They provide parents and carers with practical ideas, tools and resources to help make homework and learning part of their family routine. Each kit aims to encourage reading, showing, talking, active play, listening and coaching; they include tips and resources that allow parents to fit engagement in to their normal life.
Each kit covers the parent/child journey through both informal and formal learning processes for their children aged 5 to 19. The kits have been developed to work cohesively as a pack or as stand alone, bearing in mind that families could have more than one child at different key stages. They are:
Working together — a toolkit for parents of children aged 5 plus
Getting into homework — a pack for parents of children aged 8 to 13
Coaching your teenager — a coaching manual for parents of teenagers aged 14 to 19
The kits can be downloaded from this site.
